#TBMTV: Ice Cube Talks 'Boyz N The Hood' in 1990
Watch the Los Angeles rapper discuss his then-new acting career with MTV News
In 1990, Ice Cube was one of hip-hop's most important solo acts. The former N.W.A member's debut, AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted (recorded with Public Enemy's production team, The Bomb Squad), made a powerful first impression, but by the end of the year, Ice Cube was already looking beyond rap. In this MTV interview, recorded prior to the release of Boyz n the Hood — which arrived in theaters 25 years ago this week — Ice Cube talks about the differences between acting and rapping, and discusses what it was like to work with director John Singleton, who was only 22 (!) during the filming.
