Keke Palmer Is Practically Aaliyah’s Mini-Me In New ‘Yellow Lights’ Video

Inspired by '4 Page Letter'

Earlier this week, Keke Palmer’s name started trending on Twitter because of her new “Queen of Kush” neck tattoo and a drastic new hairstyle featuring a half-shaved scalp. Some fans immediately started dragging her for her new look, but instead of retaliating with hate, Keke pulled a boss move, capitalizing on the attention by dropping a new song, “Yellow Lights.”

The accompanying visual begins as a lyric video but then transitions into a sunny, picturesque clearing in the woods, where Keke holds court in a splendorous yellow coat. She and her crew of monotone-dressed backup dancers then bust out some killer choreography, as Keke sings about running yellow lights to get back home to her man, who knows how to hit all the right spots.

The 22-year-old Scream Queens star later explained that the video was inspired by Aaliyah’s “4 Page Letter.”

“One of my favorite videos was ‘4 Page Letter’ by Aaliyah so the vision for the video was a take on that vibe, mixed in with who I am as an artist,” Keke explained. “I love Aaliyah. To me she was a true artist in every sense of the word and I continue to just be inspired by her and let my heart guide me as always.”

This isn’t the first time Keke has channeled her inner Aaliyah (and looked like a dead ringer for her in the process) — last Halloween, she dressed up as the late singer and even recreated her “Try Again” video.

You can listen to the full recorded version of “Yellow Lights” on Keke’s SoundCloud page here.
