Listen To How Much Kanye West's Production Has Changed Over Two Decades

Thanks to a beat tape reportedly from 1997

Over the last 15 years, we've heard Kanye West's sound and sensibilities as a producer change continuously. There was soul-sampling on Jay Z's The Blueprint in 2001; more layers and instrumentation on his own Late Registration in 2005, in collaboration with Jon Brion; and a heavier, more rock-inspired approach for 2013's Yeezus. Not to mention plenty of other twists and turns along the way.

Today, we get another taste of one of Kanye's directions, in the form of what's reportedly a beat tape from 1997. The eight-track collection appears to have been uploaded to Soundcloud on Monday, without much information.

Complex, though, points out that KanyeToThe was able to connect two of the beats to songs that eventually came out, which you can listen to below.
