D’Angelo’s Tribute To Prince Is The Most Heartbreaking One Yet

He covered 'Sometimes It Snows in April' with Maya Rudolph and Gretchen Lieberum

Last night (April 26), D’Angelo graced the Tonight Show with the Prince tribute to end all Prince tributes.

The singer sat at a piano under purple stage lights to cover “Sometimes It Snows in April” with Maya Rudolph and Gretchen Lieberum. The heartbreaking ballad was written in 1986, but, eerily enough, its lyrics describe the pain of losing a loved one during an especially chilly spring. It’s almost like Prince could see 30 years into the future.

D’Angelo switched up one of the song’s lyrics to honor the late star specifically, singing, “I often dream of heaven and I know my Prince is there."
