It looks like Rita Repulsa got the reboot treatment in Lionsgate's new Power Rangers movie, and while we're not necessarily mad about it, it's a little depressing to see Rita without her iconic, oversize hat and comically large staff. Not to mention, Goldar and Mordant are nowhere to be seen. (Rude.)
People has your first look at Elizabeth Banks as the humanoid sorceress bent on intergalactic domination, and it's a slightly different take on the infamous Power Rangers villain. And by "slightly" we mean entirely. Is it just us or does Banks look like she just walked off the set of Batman V Superman? This ensemble looks like something we'd find in Poison Ivy's donation pile.
Sure, you could say that this is a slick, edgy reimagining of a cartoonish '90s villain (it is), but given that the costume looks so radically different, we have to wonder if Banks's venture to the dark side will capture Rita Repulsa's signature brand of crazy. This is not the time to get dark and gritty.
Power Rangers lands in theaters on March 24, 2017.
