5 Disney Movies We Wanna See-Feel on Their New Touch App

Snaps for innovation, especially when it means we get to be even more entertained (talk about your 21st Century people probs).

So, in a nutshell, Disney's now totally made up for its "The Little Mermaid" iPad snafu by developing a touchscreen app that actually appeals to a person's sense of touch. To repeat, that's tactile television, people. Oooooh ahhhh ... Better start giving those index fingers all stretched and ready now!

The nitty-gritty details of the thing were revealed by the BBC, which reports that Disney's researchers in Philadelphia found a way to create electro-vibrations on tablets so as to simulate the feeling of, well, feeling whatever the users were looking at.

Ready for the science speak? "Our brain perceives the 3D bump on a surface mostly from information that it receives via skin stretching," Dr. Ali Israr explained of the team's method. By using vibrations to create that sense of so-called "skin stretching," bam! A smooth touchscreen surface suddenly feels bumpy.

In the case of the trials, they had to deal with rather icky things like jellyfish and trilobite fossils, but hey, we've got a few ideas how to really get this magical new see-feel (seel?) app going if and when it makes way to home devices, and we'll start by laying out five of Disney's own titles that'd make for a good start.

1. "Bambi"

Who doesn't want to pet the little deer baby when his momma [spoiler alert?] gets shot. Plus, when the eventual smell-o-vision app does come down, that adorable Flower creature will probably make this movie off-limits all together, so we should probably enjoy it now.

2. "Honey I Shrunk the Kids"

Imagine getting to feel the sticky white goop from that giant Oatmeal Creme Pie and rubbing up on the oversized thorax of an ant and experiencing the tremors of a gigantic lawnmower comin' right atcha. Now that sounds pretty fun ... and also kinda freaky.

3. "Hocus Pocus"

Those Sanderson sisters did a lotta kid-poking during their short second life in Salem, and in the spirit of Halloween, it'd be pretty fun to play a little hands-on trick-or-treatery along with. Plus, what would the black flame candle feel like? Is it hot? Or it cold as a witch's ... you know?

4. "Inside Out"

Disney-Pixar's next super duper animation is about a girl's pack of emotions warring with one another over who gets to steer the cranial ship. And while we've only seen a little, teeeny bit from the movie so far, it's sure to be the exact kind of thing we'd wanna experience in 3-S (that's our brand new movie nerd code for a 3-sensory experience. Handle it).

5. All of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies

Because Johnny Depp. C'mon, like you haven't always wanted to know how that beard might feel against YOUR cheek (but probably best not to indulge too long because of the radiation and stuff, oof).

Which of Mickey Mouse's movies would you like see-feel on their fancy schmancy little touch app?
