Zachary Quinto: 'Star Trek 3' Filming to Start Next Year...With J.J. Abrams?!

Live long and prosper — that's certainly what the folks at Paramount Pictures are hoping their "Star Trek" film franchise'll be able to do at the box office.  And it looks like the studio might just be aiming to set the threepeat into motion sooner than later as Zachary Quinto has spilled the beans that they might be eyeing a 2014 start for "Star Trek 3"...with J.J. Abrams directing.

According to BuzzHub, while Quinto was present for a Q&A interview session on Friday, July 12 at the 2013 Galway Film Fleadh in Galway City, Ireland, he let it slip that all that "Star Trek Into Darkness" cash had the studio wanting light speed turnaround on a third installment to the spacey franchise.

"'Star Trek 3' should be filming, I suppose, next year," he said in response to a question about the J.J. Abrams-led reboot series. "It's going to be made a lot quicker than the last one. That's the plan, although nothing is confirmed yet."

Quinto also reportedly mentioned that he believes Abrams himself intends to direct "Star Trek 3," which, for those keeping count of all of Abrams' commitments — he's got "Star Wars: Episode VII" heading for production in London early next year as well — might be a tad baffling.

Interestingly enough, Quinto also declared that he'll not be re-teaming with Abrams on that other intergalactic reboot, though he did not say why.
