We've all heard of fairy tale endings, but the upcoming musical "Into the Woods" is having a real fairy tale beginning, as The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Chris Pine and Jake Gyllenhaal are the latest superstars set to join the party.
It's almost enough to make you randomly burst into fanciful song, isn't it?
Which is exactly what Pine and Gyllenhaal will be doing if they do end up landing the coveted roles of fairy tale brothers and princes who end up wooing Cinderella and Rapunzel in this adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's popular Broadway musical "Into the Woods." Both Pine and Gyllenhaal reportedly had to belt out some showtunes for director Rob Marshall ("Chicago"), which, seriously, we can only imagine how adorkable that was, especially since the signature song for the princes, "Agony," is a duet about how awesome they are. Agreed! Just please let's all imagine
Captain Fine Pine and Donnie Darko Gyllenhaal singing this...while wearing breeches, probably:
Even more exciting is the prospect of the hunky duo joining what is quickly becoming one of the most star-studded casts in recent memory. After all, Marshall's "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" star Johnny Depp has already inked a deal to play the lecherous Big Bad Wolf, while Meryl Streep (aka the Greatest of All Time) will be playing the villainous Witch.
Just who will actually be portraying the stars in this story about a baker and his wife who try to remove a family curse is yet to be determined, but at this rate, does it even matter? With Pine, Gyllenhaal, Depp and Streep all in the mix, it looks like for film fans, this is one fairly tale where wishes really do come true.
