It's Batman vs. Bane on Rival 'Everest' Movies

They once fought for supremacy of Gotham City. Now, they're looking to conquer the same mountain.

Christian Bale and Tom Hardy, respectively the hero and villain of "The Dark Knight Rises," are once again at odds as they're starring in two separate movies about Mount Everest, according to Deadline.

Bale just signed on for "Everest," which will focus on the massive 1996 storm that hit three separate expeditions and claimed a total of eight lives. The film will be directed by Baltasar Kormakur, who knows a thing or two about the freezing cold after directing "The Deep," and is based on the nonfiction book "Into Thin Air," written by Jon Krakauer, one of the survivors of the disaster.

Meanwhile, Hardy is attached to "Everest," which concentrates on Sir George Mallory's 1920 attempt to be the first man to reach the mountain's peak. This film will be directed by Doug Liman, who knows a thing or two about the freezing cold after chronicling all the sexual rejection in "Swingers," and is based on the novel "Paths of Glory" by Jeffrey Archer.

Who will be the first to reach the top of the mountain (or, rather, whose movie will hit theaters first)? Will Bale triumph over Bane once again, or will Hardy emerge as Everest's Reckoning?

And, perhaps more importantly, which movie will get to keep the title of "Everest"?

Whatever happens, it's definitely going to be a cooooollllddd journey, as Arnold Schwarzenegger's Mr. Freeze might say (a lot).
