Lenny Kravitz Has That Feeling For 'Sexual Healing' Marvin Gaye Biopic

What's Going On? Lenny Kravitz has been crowned the Prince of Motown.

We heard it through the grapevine (via Deadline) that the "Hunger Games" star has signed on to play singer-songwriter Marvin Gaye in director Julien Temple's biopic, "Sexual Healing."

There have been many Marvin Gaye biopics in the works over the years, though "Sexual Healing" seems to be the one that's actually happening as the production has managed to sort out all of the music rights issues, an obstacle that has kept many of its predecessors from seeing the light of day.

Born on April 2, 1939, Marvin Gaye is one of the most celebrated R&B artists of the 20th century. He helped shape the sound of Motown Records with hit singles such as "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)," "Ain't That Peculiar," "I'll Be Doggone," "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" and, of course, "Sexual Healing."

Gaye struggled with drug and alcohol addiction all the way up until his preacher father shot him dead during a violent argument on April 1, 1984, just one day before his 45th birthday.

Lenny Kravitz is a groovy choice for this role. He's got a pretty good acting career going as he recently received acclaim for his turn as Nurse John in "Precious" and for his sincere, nicely underplayed performance as Cinna in "The Hunger Games." He'll soon be reuniting with "Precious" director Lee Daniels for "The Butler" and will reprise his role as Cinna in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire."

Oh, and the man can sing, too. So, you know, he's got that going for him.
