Colin Firth is ascending to the throne once more.

The Oscar-winning actor will reprise his role as England's King George VI for a currently untitled sequel to "The King's Speech," according to Movieline.

"The King's Speech" chronicled George VI being crowned King of England after his older brother abdicated in order to marry American divorcee Wallis Simpson. With the help of an unorthodox therapist (Geoffrey Rush), the King overcame a severe speech impediment to lead his country against the Nazi threat.

The sequel will take place during the dark days of the Blitz, the term used to describe the sustained bombing of Great Britain and Northern Ireland by Germany during the Second World War from September 1940 through May 1941. The project is still in the early stages of development, though both Rush and Helena Bonham Carter, who played Queen Elizabeth in "The King's Speech," are expected to reprise their roles.

King George VI and Queen Elizabeth will be portrayed by Samuel West and Olivia Colman in this fall's "Hyde Park on Hudson," though we can't imagine anyone replacing Firth and Carter in our minds as the true "owners" of those parts. We loved spending time with them in "The King's Speech" and are very much looking forward to a second engagement with Their Majesties, even though it sounds like the sequel will make for a much darker film.

Colin Firth will next be seen in the crime comedy "Gambit," which will be released in the UK in November. Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter are reuniting with their "King's Speech" director Tom Hooper for "Les Miserables," opening Dec. 25.
