New 'Amazing Spider-Man' Trailer Will Collide With 'The Avengers'

With all the hullabaloo surrounding the imminent arrival of "The Avengers" it's easy to forget that another friendly neighborhood hero is swinging into theaters this summer.

Director Marc Webb confirmed on G4's "Attack of the Show" (via ComingSoon) that this oversight will be corrected on May 4 when Sony attaches the brand spankin' new trailer for "The Amazing Spider-Man" to Joss Whedon's team-up blockbuster, making it a virtual Marvel Universe melting pot. As if you needed another reason to see Iron Man punch Thor, right?

Between news of "Bridesmaids" helmer Paul Feig having dabbled with the "Amazing" script and the "Transformers"/"Star Trek" writing team of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci currently pounding out "Part 2" pages, it would seem that executives are pretty high on Webb's reboot. "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" will lay the smackdown in May of 2014, assuming audiences get as attached to Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker as he does to brick walls, otherwise the best laid plans of mice and sequels might seem a tad premature.

While the studio puffing its chest about how much confidence it has in its web slinging July 3 release is all good, how much is an audience clamoring to see a rejiggered origin story for what Sam Raimi did pretty successfully a mere decade ago with Tobey Maguire? According to our NextMovie Movietracker "The Amazing Spider-Man" currently racks up at #9 with sentiments still pretty neutral.

Hopefully this new trailer, which debuts online on Thursday May 3, will give us a more enticing taste of the intrigue, the moody teenager stuff, and Rhys Ifans' baddie The Lizard to make us forget that there will likely not be a Bruce Campbell cameo in this one.
