Nicole Kidman Might Be Crowned 'Grace of Monaco'

Is the swanlike Nicole Kidman the perfect pick to play Grace Kelly, the glamorous movie star turned Princess of Monaco? C'est possible!

It looks like she's the top pick for the highly coveted starring role in "Grace of Monaco," which will be directed by Olivier Dahan of "La vie en rose" fame.

"Grace of Monaco" isn't a biopic of the "Rear Window" star per se; instead, it focuses on a specific period of time after she's taken on the title of Princess of Monaco. According to the story, Kelly got involved in some surreptitious political monkey biz to stop a coup after the fabulous but crucial port got into a major tiff with France.

The story is reportedly going for a "King's Speech" type of vibe, which we can only take to mean a people-pleasing Oscar vehicle for the Australian actress. It will be hard for the movie not to look amazing, with the gorgeous Kidman channeling Kelly's grace on the lovely French Riviera.

"Grace of Monaco" has a hot-to-trot script by Arash Amel, so hopefully Dahan's second English language movie will be more successful than his first. While Dahan's take on Edith Piaf's life earned him serious kudos, and its star Marion Cotillard international visibility, his second movie "My Own Love Song" got much less love from the world. Dahan's English language debut, which he also wrote, stars Renée Zellweger as a woman in a wheelchair who embarks on a road trip with her best friend Joey, played by Forest Whitaker. Joey, who is possibly schizophrenic, escapes from a local hospital and convinces Jean to go with him to New Orleans to see an author who writes about angels. Strange adventures and revelations await them, of course, and needless to say, "Love Song" sunk like a stone.

With a stronger script to work from, it's likely that "Grace of Monaco" will return Dahan to the public eye and the awards circuit. Kidman was last seen alongside Nicolas Cage in "Trespass," and she has a slew of cool movies coming out soon like Lee Daniels' "The Paperboy" and Chan-wook Park's vampy thriller "Stoker." We're stoked on Kidman. How about you?
