Zoe Saldana and Casey Affleck Hop 'Out of The Furnace' with Christian Bale

Zoe Saldana and Casey Affleck have signed on the dotted line to join Christian Bale in "Out of the Furnace," a revenge drama directed by Scott Cooper that's set to start production later this month.

"Furnace" is based on a script from 2008 called "The Low Dweller," and since then, plenty of ink has been spilled on the ups and downs of its development. Now that we're only a month away from kicking things off, more info is being confirmed. That's Hollywood, folks!

The official press release has Bale playing Russell Baze instead of Slim, as per earlier reports. Saldana will play Bale's love interest, although some reports have her pegged as his ex-wife. Either way, we have no doubt she'll be a good motivator for staying on the straight and narrow.

Affleck will take on the role of little bro Rodney Jr., who, we might assume, probably does more in the movie than just meet a swift and unfortunate end. Sam Shepard, who was most recently in "Safe House" with Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds, will play their uncle; let's hope he'll dole out some sage advice.

There's no official word on who the villain might be, but rumor has it that it could be Viggo Mortensen. Imagine Bale and Mortensen going toe-to-toe? Swoon city, folks. It will also be good to see Affleck back on a tasty dramatic project that sounds more like his roles in "Gone Baby Gone" and " The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" than "Tower Heist." And, of course, we'll welcome Zoe Saldana back from her space sojourns with "Star Trek" any time, too.
