What's in the Box!?: The Bizarre Sexuality of 'Riddick'

Editor's note: Welcome to Film.com's new monthly video feature "What's in the Box!?", in which the one and only Mr. Max Evry will bravely venture inside a new DVD / Blu-ray release and – with an emphasis on the supplemental features included on the disc – try to shed some new light on these movies as only he can.

For the first installment, we've chosen to take a closer look at "Riddick", which we can exclusively confirm is a real movie that came out last year. And while the second sequel to "Pitch Black" (partially funded from the pockets of star Vin Diesel) may not have grunted its way into the zeitgeist, it turns out that there was a lot more going on in "Riddick" than meets the eye. Namely, some unusually complex sexual politics. Perhaps that shouldn't be too unexpected given how gender issues latently dominated the original movie, but is this series ultimately about one bald alien's desperate quest to prove his heterosexuality?

Take a look. And heed the following warnings:

- SPOILERS

- NAUGHTY WORDS

- BREASTS OF BOTH THE HUMAN AND ALIEN VARIETY.
