NEW RELEASES

'Gangster Squad'

Known for his biting comedic films like "Zombieland" and "30 Minutes or Less," director Ruben Fleischer changes gears with this period drama set during the era gangster Mickey Cohen ruled Los Angeles. Josh Brolin and Ryan Gosling lead the rag-tag unit made up to take down Cohen (played by Sean Penn) by any means necessary.

Why Watch It: All-star cast including Emma Stone playing the femme fatale.

Available On: iTunes, Amazon Instant [On Demand 4/23]

'Broken City'

Now we fast forward to a modern day crime thriller. Mark Wahlberg plays an ex-cop on a mission of redemption that leads him to the mayor of New York City, played by Russell Crowe.

Why Watch It: Just to see who’s glaring stare is more sinister: Wahlberg or Crowe.

Available On: iTunes, Amazon Instant [On Demand 4/23]

'Promised Land'

Co-written by John Krasinski and Matt Damon and directed by Gus Van Sant, Damon stars as a natural gas salesman who gets a jolt of reality when he spends some time with the locals in a small town his corporation is trying to tap into.

Why Watch It: Brings a face to a topic that’s been highly debated in the news for years not.

Available On: iTunes, Amazon Instant [On Demand 4/23

'Wuss'

A favorite from the film festival circuit is finally available through Cable On Demand. Mitch (Nate Rubin) is teaching at the public high school he used to attend, but things have changed since he was a kid. He learns that first hand when one of his students beats him up in the parking lot. Fed up and determined for payback, he takes disciplinary action a bit too far with the help of another of his students.

Why Watch It: At times a dark comedy, other times a gripping drama of self-discovery, this is unlike any high school movie you’ve ever seen.

Available On: Cable On Demand, iTunes, VUDU, Amazon Instant

OLDIES BUT GOODIES (Baseball Edition)

The boys of summer are back, and here are some classics that celebrate our national pastime.

'The Natural'

Baseball as a fairytale that captures the child in all of us is perfected in this film by Barry Levinson, based on Bernard Malamud’s novel. Robert Redford stars as a one-time pitching phenom who returns to the game a bit older and wiser to revitalize a struggling team with his home run power.

Available On: iTunes, VUDU, Amazon Instant, Redbox, YouTube, Google Play

'Major League'

Spotlighting the raunchy clubhouse humor that can be found in any baseball locker room, this classic comedy stars Charlie Sheen, Tom Berenger and Wesley Snipes as bottom-of-the-barrel ball players who are assembled to make the Cleveland Indians horrible so their owner can move the team, instead they come together and become a Cinderella story.

Available On: iTunes, VUDU, Amazon Instant, YouTube

'Eight Men Out'

Indie film maverick John Sayles looks at the controversy that almost destroyed professional baseball, the 1919 Chicago White Sox (known as the "Black Sox") who threw the World Series for financial gain. Sayles assembles an incredible cast, including John Cusack, Charlie Sheen, Michael Rooker and David Strathairn, to name a few, for this dramatization of how the events transpired.

Available On: iTunes, Netflix, VUDU, Amazon Instant, YouTube, Google Play

'Field of Dreams'

Known by baseball fans all over for it’s iconic voiceover line, “If you build it, they will come,” Kevin Costner plays an Iowa corn farmer who after hearing those words one night out in his field decides to transform part of his lot into a baseball diamond. Then before he knows it, you guessed it, the Black Sox appear and want to play ball.
