In preparation for Adam Driver’s “Saturday Night Live” hosting debut this weekend, the show opted to film its promos offsite at a diner, instead of the usual Studio 8H backdrop at 30 Rockefeller Plaza.
This, apparently, did not sit well with Driver, who spiraled into melodrama over the apparent diss, sounding even more emo than Emo Kylo Ren, the Twitter parody account inspired by his “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” baddie.
“I know why,” he says soberly. “Because I’m the new guy. And they don’t trust the new guys with the promos in the studio, so they brought us here, to this godforsaken diner to laugh and joke and dance like everything’s okay. But everything’s not okay.”
At least give him credit for not breaking into a violent outburst and bashing every switchboard in sight?
Don’t worry: Driver soon snaps out of it once “SNL” cast member Kate McKinnon reminds him that all the diner food set up in front of them is real and delicious and FREE. And we all know nothing mends a jet black heart like greasy french fries.
Check out the promos below — which also find Driver breaking out his cross-guarded lightsaber and squirting ketchup into McKinnon’s mouth — and catch him on “SNL” this Saturday (Jan. 16) at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
