In a recent interview, former KKK Grand Wizard David Duke said that 2016 presidential hopeful Donald Trump speaks "a lot more radically" than he does.
"As far as what I see, according to the candidates that are out there now, Republicans and Democrats, I think he’s head and shoulders right now above the rest," Duke said in a clip on his YouTube channel. (MTV News could not immediately verify the source of the interview or the reporter; BuzzFeed has pointed out that "it’s unclear who the interviewer is or if the interview aired.")
"I don’t agree with everything he says," Duke, who is also a former member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, continued. "He speaks a little more, actually he speaks a little more, a lot more radically than I talk. And I think that’s a positive and negative."
ThinkProgress reports that "Duke, who’s classified by the Southern Poverty Law Center as the 'most recognizable figure of the American radical right, a neo-Nazi, longtime Klan leader and now international spokesman for Holocaust denial,' has been supportive of Trump in the past, though he hasn’t officially endorsed the candidate. In August, Duke said that Trump 'understands the real sentiment of America.'"
Trump's campaign was recently named Politifact's "Lie of the Year" for its many inaccurate statements, many of which are rooted in anti-Muslim rhetoric.
