England Just Proved That Every National Monument Should Be Turned Into A Giant Lightsaber

Life, liberty, and the pursuit of lightsabers.

One of England's most beloved national monuments has been officially transformed into a giant lightsaber, in honor of the release of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

Nelson's Column, otherwise known as that very tall object in Trafalgar Square, lit up in brilliant "Star Wars" style as the movie premiered yesterday in London. According to The Telegraph, it cost a whopping £24,000 (or just under $36,000 US) to pull off the stunt.

Clearly, it was money well spent. It looks AWESOME.

Meanwhile, London isn't the only city to celebrate the new "Star Wars" with a giant lightsaber; in Ireland, the Dublin Spire was similarly transformed for the big premiere.

But here's the thing: There is absolutely no reason why we should allow Europe to beat us at this game. So, we're going to need to make some changes to our own national monuments, stat.

Washington Monument? GIANT LIGHTSABER. Seattle Space Needle? GIANT LIGHTSABER. California redwoods? More like a redwood forest of GIANT LIGHTSABERS. And the Statue of Liberty should obviously be holding a GIANT LIGHTSABER in lieu of a torch for as long as "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is in theaters... or forever. Yes, forever would be good.
