Whether you've been through depression before or not, we've all had our bad days where it's a struggle to feel OK. And that's exactly what resonated so much about Imgur user mollywho's recent post — we've all been there before.
The image is of her visibly crying in the mirror, but when you see what's written on the glass, it's totally understandable. The reflection reads, "Reasons I Love My Wife," followed by 15 points.
The original post did not give her full name, but she identified personally as the wife. Recounting the events leading up to that day, she noted being stressed juggling friends, family, work and a new marriage. The day this picture was taken, she came home from a trip and was exhausted to the point of tears, when she looked over to see her husband's message.
"I think he wanted me to remember how much he loves me. Because he knows how quickly I forget," mollywho wrote in the post. "He knows I struggle to see good in the world, and especially the good in myself." While this helped her, she acknowledged the complexities of depression as well: "I'm not saying mental illness is cured by nice words on a mirror. In fact, it takes professional care, love, empathy, sometimes even medication just to cope."
Though notes like this aren't a catch-all cure for her's or anyone else's depression, they are an important piece to the puzzle of feeling happy and healthy. Gestures like this remind us all that we're loved and that everything is going to be OK.
