Minecraft has become one of the fastest growing game franchises ever with over 14 million active accounts and about 50,000 new users everyday. As many of you may know, the addicting block stacking game recently appeared on Android devices in the form of Minecraft: Pocket Edition. Now, Sony Ericcson, with their Xperia PLAY, and The Daily Show’s Kristen Schaal have issued Minecraft whiz kids a challenge… Bust out your Android device and build the hilarious Kristen Schaal a Minecraft palace!
“We know there’s a dedicated Minecraft community out there and by issuing this challenge, we’ll see how they showcase their creativity and skills for the ultimate Minecraft building project,” said Peter Farmer, Head of Marketing, North America at Sony Ericsson. “I can’t wait to see what kind of captivating designs and pixelations the North American Minecraft community create for Kristen.”
The contest officially started on October 7th and will run until November 7th, 2011. Sometime after that player submissions, in the form of a video showing off your hopefully massive creation, will be judged with a representative from Mojang (the studio behind Minecraft) present. The lucky winner could win a trip to NYC to show off their Minecraft building skills in front of Kristen!
“I’ve always had a soft spot for gamers, so the chance to do something with Xperia™ PLAY gamers, and Minecraft gamers in particular, was something that I was totally into,” said Kristen Schaal, comedian and Minecraft newbie. “Plus, I am looking forward to having the world’s largest collection of giant, pixelated buildings.”
Interested gamers can head over to Facebook.com/BuildForKristen for all of the contest rules and prizing information. However, before you take off, we’re pretty sure you’d like to hear about the contest from Kristen herself and you can do just that by watching the promo video below!
