Yesterday we got word on the release date for a sequel to "Thor," as well as the news that director Kenneth Branagh would not be returning for a follow-up film. Today brings more "Thor" sequel details — specifically, the screenwriter who will handle the God of Thunder's next solo adventure.
According to Deadline, Marvel Studios has tapped screenwriter Don Payne to script the sequel. Payne was a co-writer on this year's "Thor," and previously co-wrote "Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer." He was also brought in to do a rewrite on the "Lobo" movie that's being developed.
Given that Payne is also a co-executive producer on "The Simpsons," we're likely to see more of the same humor that was peppered throughout the first film.
While the studio is still in search of a new director, they don't need to look for a new leading man. "Thor" star Chris Hemsworth will indeed return for the July 2013 film. "Thor" actresses Natalie Portman and Kat Dennings told MTV News last year that they're both signed on for sequels, too — which could mean we'll see the whole cast back together after "The Avengers."
The "Thor" sequel is scheduled for release July 26, 2013.
