'Beasts Of Burden' Adaptation Gets 'Jack The Giant Killer' Screenwriter

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Jack The Giant Killer" writer Darren Lemke will pen the screenplay for "Beasts Of Burden," which follows a group of animals in the fictional community of Burden Hill who fight supernatural threats. The Eisner-winning comic book — which we recommended for adaptation all the way back in September 2009 — was created by Evan Dorkin and Jill Thompson.

While this is Lemke's first foray into comic book properties, he's been on the peripheral of comics and animated fare a few times now.

Lemke penned the script for "Jack The Giant Killer," which is currently in production under "X-Men" and "Superman Returns" director Bryan Singer. He also co-wrote the recent CG-animated film "Shrek Forever After."

Andrew Adamson, who directed the first two Shrek films, is expected to direct CG-animated "Beast of Burden," and is producing the film alongside his Strange Weather Films partner Aron Warner, and Dark Horse Entertainment president Mike Richardson. Dark Horse's Keith Goldberg is executive producing the film.
