John Schneider Returns To 'Smallville'

According to IGN, John Schneider will reprise his role as Jonathan Kent — Clark Kent's adoptive father — in the first episode of the tenth season, which is called "Lazarus." Additionally, Schneider is also expected to return in at least one more episode during the season.

Jonathan Kent was killed off during the fifth season of "Smallville" and this will be Schneider's first return to the series in almost five years. Prior to his role on "Smallville," Schneider was perhaps best known for portraying Bo Duke on "The Dukes of Hazzard" TV series. More recently, he has appeared in "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "90210" and "Hot in Cleveland."

While the CW network has hinted that other previous "Smallville" cast members may return in the upcoming season, Tom Welling has been vocal about his desire to see Michael Rosenbaum reprise his role as Lex Luthor.

"I want to see Lex [Luthor],"Welling told MTV News. "I want to see him come back. In the show, he's still alive. He's just not around. But I want to see Michael [Rosenbaum] and I want to see Lex Luthor. I want to know how that relationship really turns out. Because that's the big relationship that I believe propelled Clark to become Superman."

Despite Rosenbaum's earlier statement that he will not return to the series, hints about Luthor's survival were first dropped in the "Justice Society" episode by comic scribe Geoff Johns. The same episode also left clues that Darkseid and the the dark gods of Apokolips may appear on the series next season.

The tenth and final season of "Smallville" will debut on Friday, September 24.
