In just a few hours this potato went from a relative unknown to a full-on celebrity...with the help of One Direction .

The guys stopped by "Jimmy Kimmel Live" where the host decided to introduce the newest member of the One Direction family: a Russet potato.

"We bought it at Ralph's. It cost 58 cents. It's a very ordinary, some might say humble, vegetable, but what this potato does not know is it is about to become the most famous potato in the world," he said. "Members of the paparazzi will try to take pictures of it. Young girls will shriek when they see it. By this time tomorrow, this potato...might even be dating Ariana Grande."

While it's not dating Ariana (at least, not that we know of), it has become a celebrity overnight. After the boys were introduced to their newest member, and Niall gave it a kiss and Liam rubbed it in Harry's hair, they posted a picture welcoming their edible band mate to the family.

Being part of the band, it obviously had to get its own Instagram account, where it now has over 106,000 followers.

The potato had quite a night with Jimmy and the guys, as it took the stage to perform a bunch of songs from their new album, Made In The A.M.

It got behind the drums.

And made some new friends.

Oh, and let's not forget about the 1D Potato's Twitter account where it has nearly 15,000 followers, but may we point out that he hasn't started following the members of the band. We can't imagine Harry, Niall, Liam and Louis would be too happy about that. Either way, the 1D Potato had an incredible, and memorable, night.
