'Black Ops - Call Of The Dead' Trailer Has Five Awesome Things You May Have Missed

Hopefully you've already seen the new trailer from Activision for the "Call of the Dead" zombies map in next week's Escalation DLC for "Call of Duty: Black Ops." If you haven't, go watch it. Right now. We're going to talk about it after the jump, the various new features revealed and possibly revealed in the generous-yet-still-painfully-short series of images that flash by. Spoilers(?) and screen caps to come. You've been warned.

George A. Romero Swings A Powered-up Studio Light

Pretty simple. George A. Romero, the creator of "Night of the Living Dead" and modern zombies as we know them, is this map's "boss" zombie. We've previously seen Hellhounds, a weapon-stealing Scientist and Space Monkeys. Now it's Romero. Wielding a supercharged studio light like a sledgehammer. We'll have to figure out a way to take him down if we want to get his sweet, sweet Max Ammo.

Agile Zombie Hordes

As the trailer shows in great detail, it's a whole new look for the zombie's threatening our heroes this time. What's more, they're smarter. As you can see in the above pic, these zombies know how to use ziplines. Also, there are ziplines. And a jump pad that launches you off the wrecked ship! If you look carefully behind the zombies in this screen cap, you can clearly see the map's power room at the top level of the ship as well.

Moddable Weapons

Most fans agreed that adding the weapon upgrading Pack-A-Punch machine to the Der Reise map in "World at War" was a masterstroke. The PaP machine has endured on all of the maps since, but it looks like there may be some new additions to our weapons this time out. In the image above you see two weapons. Michael Rooker (on the left) is holding an HK21 LMG. It's not stock though; it's been outfitted with an infrared scope and a drum mag. Also take a look at Robert Englund, on the right. It's hard to say what gun that is, but it could be the rumored return of the PPSh SMG. That one also has a scope, probably an ACOG, and, for some reason, a silencer. How might a silencer be useful against zombies?

New Wonder Weapon

It's a tradition now for zombie maps to feature a Wonder Weapon. The Ray Gun is a constant, but Der Reise featured the Wunderwaffe, Kino Der Toten and Ascension got the Thundergun, and Five got the ice-spewing Winter's Howl. The Ray Gun is most definitely back, but here we have a glimpse of the new Wonder Weapon. There's writing on it, looks like KR11? Anyone?

New Melee Weapons And Attacks?

Melee weapons are all over this trailer. Sarah Michelle Gellar has a sickle. Robert Englund has a pitchfork. Danny Trejo swings around two machetes (how fitting). And Michael Rooker... well, we don't see him with a melee weapon but we do see him wielding dual sawed-off shotguns. Could each character in this new map have a unique melee attack? Can all of these weapons simply be purchased off of the wall or found in a Mystery Box? Is melee more complex now than pressing down on the right stick (unless you use Tactical button mapping)? All questions we will continue to ask until the pack is out on May 3.

Big thanks to my XBL buddy Karmas Remorse for helping to assemble this list.
