Mariah Carey Has Joined The Cast Of ‘The Lego Batman Movie’ — Yes, Really

Gotham City's about to get glittered up.

Here’s the most unexpected news of the week (and it’s only Monday!): “The Lego Batman Movie” is about to get a whole lot more divalicious, thanks to one Mariah Carey.

The 2017 spinoff to “The Lego Movie” has been building up its cast with some seriously high-caliber comedic minds, including Will Arnett reprising his role as Batman, Ralph Fiennes as Alfred the Butler, Michael Cera as Robin, Zach Galifianakis as The Joker and Rosario Dawson as Batgirl. And now, The Hollywood Reporter confirms supreme songstress Carey has nabbed the role of Gotham City’s mayor (she will not, as an earlier Deadline report claimed, be playing Commissioner Gordon).

Carey’s acting resume has been a bit shaky — there was that whole cringe-worthy “Glitter” flop in 2001 that the world loves to remember — but she’s since made solid turns in “Precious” and “Lee Daniels’ The Butler.” Plus, this is a woman who’s world-renowned for her voice, so this should be a naturally stellar gig for her.

“The Lego Batman Movie” flies into theaters Feb. 10, 2017. No word yet on whether Carey will get her own solo number in the flick, but it’s worth nothing that Arnett DID sing an angsty little tune in “The Lego Movie,” so we’re sure there’s room for a Batman-inspired ballad in there somewhere.
