Alessia Cara’s New Track ‘Wild Things’ Makes Being Uncool Sound So Cool

The 19-year-old rallies the rebel rousers on the new track from her upcoming debut album.

By now, you’ve surely heard Alessia Cara’s breakout hit, “Here.” And chances are, if you’ve even remotely felt like an apathetic outsider before, it spoke to you on an intimate level, channeling your innermost thoughts with its honest-as-hell lyrics and mellow vibes.

Now, Alessia is back with another anthem for misfits who are on the outside looking in — only this time, she’s not side-eyeing her flaky peers or feeling annoyed by them. She’s f--king rebelling instead.

On Tuesday (Oct. 27), the 19-year-old gave us a promising taste of her upcoming debut album with “Wild Things,” a song she’s been playing live for a few months now. During an acoustic performance on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show in July, she introduced the track by explaining, “This song is called ‘Wild Things’ and it’s about self acceptance and kind of saying I don’t need to be this great, amazing person or this smart person or this popular person to still feel cool about myself. And for all the people who don’t really feel like they have a place, we can make our own place.”

With its galloping beat, soulful vocals and inviting “aye aye aye” chants in the chorus, “Wild Things” is an unapologetic anthem for the rebel rousers who simply DGAF that they’re not one of the “cool” kids. And, ironically, being uncool has never sounded this cool before.

“Wild Things” is from Alessia’s debut studio album, Know-It-All, which drops Nov. 13 (a.k.a. the busiest album release date ever). And while that may seem like a tongue-in-cheek title for a 19-year-old, Alessia keeps proving she has the insight and attitude of an artist who can teach us a lot about marching to the beat of our own drum.
