It’s OK to be a misfit. It’s OK to do things your own way. Following your passion — whatever it may be — isn’t something to be ashamed of.

Try to resist shouting along to this chorus, I dare you. This track chronicles a universal headache that so many of us will face at one point or another: money is an effin’ problem. 5SOS are owning up to their mistakes, but also acknowledging that it’s only after we let go of our regrets that we can feel alive again. And it’s never too late to change!

“Safety Pin”

“Runaways, we’re the long lost children/ Running to the edge of the world/ Everybody wants to throw us away/ Broken boy meets broken girl”

This lyric talks about the people of “the new broken scene.” They’re the rejects and misfits of the world; the ones who band together when they’ve been shut out elsewhere. If that sounds like you, 5SOS want you to know you’re not alone — there are plenty of other people who feel the same way you do.

This standout song is so full of hope and optimism, urging you to carpe f—kin’ diem. You don’t have to take it too literally — sure, you could actually “fly away” to some tropical paradise, but it works just as well if you simply abandon the people or the habits that have been holding you back, and start fresh. Because you know what? The best is yet to come.

This one’s for the introverts of the world who are swimming in self-doubt and struggling to define themselves, but dream of one day finally finding their place.

“I’m not gonna say that I’m sorry, gonna see the end of this story/ I won’t fade into darkness”

The song reaches its climax when Michael triumphantly declares he’s not afraid to express himself anymore because — as he sings in the chorus — he’s got “something to prove, nothing to lose.”
