‘Jem And The Holograms’ Cast Reveals What It’s Like To Become An IRL Band

Jem is adventure! Jem is excitement!

With reporting by Chris Kim

When you're making a movie based on a franchise as glam and sparkly as the original "Jem And The Holograms," you've got a lot to live up to. That's because not only does Jem mean so much to so many different people, but she and her awesome band are practically a force of nature. The hair! The makeup! The music! The lights! Everything has to come together to make Jem as totally outrageous as she can be.

Speaking with MTV News at a recent press junket, the cast of "Jem and the Holograms" -- Aubrey Peeples, Stefanie Scott, Hayley Kiyoko, Aurora Perrineau, and Ryan Guzman -- explained how they prepared for showtime: with lots and lots of practice.

"We had a dance studio where we would go and learn how to work the stage and kind of which parts we could rock out with each other on, seeing how far we can take it," Stefanie Scott said. "Other than that we just kind of stepped into the environment of the lasers and the smoke and sang the songs we had... It was great."

"There were a lot of real Jem fans in the audience," Aurora Perrineau added, noting how awesome it was to drum on stage in front of a "giant crowd."

Meanwhile, Ryan Guzman offered up some good advice for anybody who, like him, might be singing on screen for the first time: you have to actually sing along with the track, not lip sync. "If you're not actually singing then it looks like you're faking it. We recorded the track and then I sang live, but you didn't hear the vocals, you just heard what I was lip syncing to."

Good advice for the next time you try to record a killer dubsmash!
