Watch Carly Rae Jepsen’s Emotional Take On Years & Years ‘King’

Carly gets vulnerable with her stripped-down take on the electro-pop jam.

As is tradition on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, Carly Rae Jepsen chose another artist’s song to cover during her in-studio session on Thursday (Sept. 17). And — surprising absolutely no one — she crushed her performance of Years & Years’ breakout single “King.”

Jepsen isn’t the kind of vocalist known for her huge range; rather, her special touch lies in her ability to deliver songs with intense emotion. So for her take on the electro-pop trio’s moody house anthem, she dialed it down a notch, letting her vulnerability shine through with a minimalist arrangement that included just a keyboard and acoustic guitar.

Jepsen also performed a stripped-down version of EMOTION album opener “Run Away With Me.” Sadly, there was no saxophone, but she managed to make live musical magical nonetheless. Head to BBC's website to hear the acoustic take in all its glory.
