All of the action and fantasy featured in "The Shannara Chronicles" is set in the fictional Four Lands -- and when the small-screen adaptation of the beloved book series comes to MTV in January 2016, viewers will voyage along with the diverse cast of characters to New Zealand. While the stunning Down Under backdrop has a rich history of serving as the location for this genre of entertainment storytelling, the behind-the-scenes video below paints a stunning picture of the truly unbelievable "TSC" setting. Mountains, beaches and never-ending greenery -- it's all on display.

"One of the things that 'The Shannara Chronicles' takes advantage of is the slightly alien landscape of New Zealand, and that helps really create the other-worldliness that you need for fantasy worlds," John Rhys-Davies -- who portrays King Eventine -- explains in the clip. Scenery truly fit for royalty, that's for sure.

And while Austin Butler -- who is the half-human/half-elf Wil on the series -- may have slightly struggled with those 3 a.m. call times, spending the early hours in this environment put everything into a special perspective.

"I'm not a morning person, and I wake up and I think, 'Look what I get to do,'" the actor -- whose alter ego will be tangled in a love triangle -- explains. "I’m out here, watching the sun rise over this beautiful mountainscape. And I’m with all of my friends, and it’s wonderful."
