Goofy Told Us What He Thinks About Those Jar Jar Binks Comments

"There's only one Goofy," says voice actor Bill Farmer.

When it comes to "Star Wars," even the most fair weather of fans can agree: Jar Jar Binks is just the worst.

The clumsy, naive Gungan, introduced in "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace," is often regarded as the most hated character in the "Star Wars" universe -- and that's saying a lot when you have an entire army of bad guys. But the one person who continues to defend Jar Jar is his creator, George Lucas, who most recently confessed that his inspiration for the babbling character was none other than a Disney legend: Goofy.

"I can't even begin to tell you how much of an influence Disney has had on me," Lucas told fans at Disney's D23 expo in Anaheim on Friday. "I will say one secret that nobody knows: Not many people realize that Goofy was the inspiration for Jar Jar Binks."

Goofy

"I know that you will look at him differently now," Lucas added. "It's pretty obvious, actually, but, um, I love Goofy and I love Jar Jar."

Yes, Goofy -- the hapless, lovable lunkhead of Walt Disney Animation -- is the inspiration for one of the most annoying characters to ever grace the big screen. Gawrsh, that's rough.

So, what does Goofy himself think about Lucas' Jar Jar Binks confession? "There's only one Goofy," Bill Farmer, the voice of Goofy since 1987, told MTV News at D23 on Sunday. "And Jar Jar is Jar Jar and Goofy is Goofy. He's got a few Goofy traits in there, but he's his own character."

Speaking of Jar Jar's notorious reputation among "Star Wars" fans, Farmer said, "I'm glad Goofy is kind of the opposite of him in that realm."

Yeah, and not to mention, can Jar Jar do THIS?

In other words, no relation, folks. However, doesn't mean the Goofster isn't flattered by Lucas' admiration.

"I did meet George Lucas at the luncheon the other day, and I went up to him and said, [in Goofy voice] 'Gawrsh, I didn't know that! Who'da thunk it?' And he laughed, thankfully."

Rejoice! You can now safely watch "A Goofy Movie" without having any visions of Jar Jar. 'Cause these two characters couldn't be more different in the hearts of fans.
