Busta Rhymes Arrested And Charged With Assault

His lawyer calls the charge 'a bunch of bull.'

Busta Rhymes has been arrested and charged with second degree assault following an incident at a New York City gym.

According to the Associated Press, around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the rapper allegedly threw a 17-ounce cardboard container of a strawberry-flavored protein drink at an employee of Steel's Gym in Chelsea. An NYPD spokesman said that Busta and the employee had a dispute which ultimately escalated.

Following his release, Busta took to Instagram to address the situation.

"Thanks to everyone who helped expedite this evening for me," he wrote. "I'm good and we're back to the grind. Heading 2 the studio 2 turn the bullsh-t into GREATNESS. I'm super good. #THECONGLOMERATE."

The New York Daily News reports that, according to a patron of the gym, Busta and a front desk employee had a dispute on Tuesday, when the Brooklyn MC wanted to bring in a cameraman to record his workout routine, but was prohibited.

“Things got heated. Busta splashed water on him and the employee threw water back. Busta’s security got between them,” Sean Aird, 23, a bodybuilder from Brooklyn, told the paper. "The cops came and [the employee] kept changing his story.

“He was provoked. Busta never had any physical contact with him whatsoever.”

Another gymgoer, meanwhile, claims that, “This has been going on for a long time."

The veteran rapper's lawyer believes that his client will beat the case. “This is clearly an attempt by someone to take advantage of Busta," Scott Leemon told the NYDN. “He did nothing wrong. This is a bunch of bull.”
