America Ferrera is really grateful to Donald Trump right now. Because every time he opens his mouth about the nation's immigration policy concerns, he's basically energizing a Sisterhood of the Travelling Voters.
In an open Thank You letter to the Don, which Ferrera wrote for Huffington Post, she basically told him "you're hired" ... as an inadvertent Latino voter enthusiast. And his job description is simply to just continue being himself and keep spouting on about building walls and how he thinks Mexican immigrants are all just a bunch of criminals and that the border nation is purposefully dumping its problem people on the U.S. (Seriously, he said that.)
And Ferrera thinks it's just great, really, because in her view all it's doing is encouraging her fellow Latino voters to make sure and prioritize the polls in the upcoming presidential election, at which he plans to be a nominee.
"Here we are pounding the pavement to get American Latinos to the polls, while your tactic proves most effective," wrote Ferrera. "Remarks like yours will serve brilliantly to energize Latino voters and increase turnout on election day against you and any other candidate who runs on a platform of hateful rhetoric."
Ferrera pointed out that America's Latino population growth is outpacing all others by a great margin -- she pointed to a 49 percent growth in the constituency from 2000-12 as compared to 5.8 percent for everyone else -- while the rest of the country has been making huge social advances as well.
"You, Mr. Trump, are living in an outdated fantasy of a bigoted America. Last week, America celebrated some amazing milestones -- marriage equality, universal healthcare, removing of the confederate flag -- making it clear in which direction the country is moving," she wrote. "That is why racist remarks that play to extremists won't change the tide, no matter how hard you try. They will only serve to rally more Latino voters to the polls. Your negativity and your poorly thought out speech ignited a fire in our community. Thank you, Mr. Trump!"
Which basically amounts to a "keep doing you, Don. Keep doing you."
