Mindy Kaling And B.J. Novak Are Writing A Book About Their Weird Relationship

Sooo maybe staying friends with your ex is actually a good thing?

For most of us, spending time with an ex is a torturous thought that should be avoided like the plague. After all, exes are exes for a reason, so why hang out with them after things are dunzo?

To snag a multi-million dollar check, that’s why.

In what might be the most riveting book news of all time, former onscreen and offscreen couple Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak — aka Kelly and Ryan from “The Office” — have been given $7.5 million by Random House to co-pen a book about their tumultuous, ambiguous relationship.

So, yes, it turns out being friendly with your ex may actually be in your best, most lucrative interest. That is, if you’re as funny and adorable and famous as Kaling and Novak are.

According to NY Daily News, the title of the tell-all book will be announced at BookCon next week, where Kaling will also be promoting her upcoming book of essays, Why Not Me?.

If you’re doubtful about why this particular relationship deserves its own documentation, look no further than Kaling and Novak’s long history of alluding to their lost love as “the one that got away.”

Just earlier this month, Kaling told InStyle, “My relationship with B.J. Novak is weird as hell. He is not my boyfriend, but he is not my best friend. I guess you could describe our relationship as a ‘romantically charged camaraderie with loud arguments.’”

Meanwhile, Novak has described her as, “a really complicated person and a really complicated friendship, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.”

Either this book will set the record straight once and for all or somehow make things even more convoluted than before. Our money’s on the latter, but it should be a highly entertaining read nevertheless!
