Reese Witherspoon And Sofia Vergara Offer Powerful Words For Young Female Filmmakers

It's hard out there. You've gotta be tough.

With reporting by Nicole Pajer

Whether you're in front of the camera or behind it, there's no denying that it's tough for women to get ahead in the film industry. But the exceptional female creators involved in "Hot Pursuit" -- Sofia Vergara, Reese Witherspoon, and director Anne Fletcher -- know better than anybody just how hard it is to break through the glass ceiling, and have some words of wisdom for the new generation of up-and-comers.

As an actress, Vergara has a unique perspective on the movie business, and told us that you shouldn't take rejection as a sign that you're not good enough "There's a million other reasons why a director or casting director won't give you the role," she said, citing her own horrible audition stories. "It's not because you're not beautiful enough or not talented enough."

But the biggest thing you can take away, regardless of what you choose for your life? "Go for it," Fletcher said. "Don't let anything hold you back. If that's exactly something you want to do, then pursue it." Words to live by!

Hot Pursuit hits theaters May 8.
