8 Reasons Why You Should Take The Summer Off After College

Enjoy your last summer vacation while you can.

As I put on my cap and gown and took that long, magnificent walk to receive my diploma, I was ecstatic about having survived four years of college ... I was also extremely worried about where I was going next. Some of my friends had already secured jobs in their field of study, while others went back to work at the Gap.

But I had decided to take my mother's advice, and now I pass it on to you: take the summer off.

(Some of you may be thinking how you can financially afford to take the summer off. I worked hard during the academic year and saved up enough to do so. For the luckier folks, your parents may be able to let you gloriously mooch off of them -- but, to be honest, getting a part-time job might be a good idea; it keeps you busy.)

Yes, it's scary to not have a plan right away, but trust me, you won't regret taking it easy over the summer, and here's why:

The older you get, you'll have to deal with more and more bills, job duties, home maintenance, relationship maintenance, pets and maybe even kids. Plus, you only have so much time before your body decides it no longer wants to function after a long night of partying -- enjoy this (responsibly) while you can.

You still have the energy to learn new things

iCarly Books

I know what you're thinking ... you just finished learning, right?! Isn't that what graduating college means? Well, it shouldn't. Now's the time to read all of those books that you didn't have the time to get into, or, you can try to learn a new language. Parlez-vous français? No? Well, maybe you could after a few weeks of free time. After you start that demanding gig, all you'll want to do at the end of the day is come home, collapse on the couch and watch Netflix.

You'll have more time to find the perfect job

You're eager to work and that's great, but as soon as you start the 9-to-5 life, you'll be doing it until you retire ... which is at, like, age 65. Until then, you won't have any other extended chance to relax.

It's like the stars aligning! You can live with your parents rent-free or travel, you don't need to worry about school anymore and you have six whole months before you have to pay your loans. Now's the ideal time to take it easy.
