Hugh Jackman Is Finally Retiring Wolverine

After 15 years, Hugh is ready to hang up his claws.

Hugh Jackman is ready to hang up his claws.

Hugh took to his Instagram to confirm that he'll be playing Wolverine for one last time in a photograph which featured his clenched fists and the signature claws of his X-Men character.

According to a source who spoke to The Wrap, Hugh's Instagram post refers to an upcoming sequel to 2013's The Wolverine. Although Hugh's Wolverine is also rumored to appear in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse or in Deadpool (starring Ryan Reynolds), the upcoming sequel is the most likely candidate for the end of Wolverine as we've known him for more than a decade.

In 2014, Hugh also hinted that the upcoming sequel would be significantly different than what we've been used to in the past. "I'd probably move it to a different visual palette," Hugh said. "We are looking at a lot of different storylines. No one has jumped out."

Hugh's Wolverine first appeared in 2000's X-Men and he has appeared six times in numerous X-Men universe films, including last year's X-Men: Days of Future Past. Whenever Hugh makes his last appearance, we'll be devasted for sure. Consider it the end of an era.
