Vin Diesel Tells Us About His Marvel Movie Future

The "Furious 7" star weighs in on his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

With reporting by Nicole Pajer

Vin Diesel is a man of many talents. He's able to drive a car in the most insane way possible in the "Fast & Furious" franchise, including the upcoming "Furious 7." He's able to portray a talking tree with heart and soul in "Guardians of the Galaxy." And maybe, just maybe, the actor will also be playing another Marvel movie role in 2019's "Inhumans."

At least that's what he seemed to be teasing on August 11, 2014 when he told fans on his Facebook page that, "I get the strange feeling Marvel thinks I'm Inhuman... Haha." And then again on December 29, 2014, once again taking to his Facebook page to tease the phrase, "Are You Inhuman?" with a picture of himself.

So will Diesel in fact pull double duty in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the next few years? When MTV headed to the Los Angeles junket for "Furious 7," we asked the star straight up.

"Oh god," Diesel said, laughing. "Wow. Right for the jugular. You see, Marvel? They ask me these questions!"

To be fair, we were the first interview Diesel had during the busy junket day, so he was perhaps thrown by what we asked. That said, once he composed himself, he continued, explaining, "You know, I enjoyed the experience of playing Groot. A lot of it was the great cast, and the genius of James Gunn. But I also enjoyed, you know, entering into the Marvel world. And... Good things will come from that."

So, take from that what you will. Certainly as far as possible from a confirmation that Diesel will be taking a role in "Inhumans." In fact, one might call it an able deflection.

Still, for those familiar with the characters from the comics -- or their recent appearance on TV on "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." -- Diesel would be a great fit for the future franchise. Fans have pegged him for the opposite of the mono-lined Groot from "Guardians of the Galaxy," playing the leader of the genetically modified superhumans, Black Bolt. The reason? Where Groot states the same phrase over and over, Black Bolt says nothing. Mainly because even a whisper from the king could level a city, but still, it makes a certain kind of sense.

Regardless of whether Diesel is taking on another role, hoping to take on another role, or just playing with fans, he does have "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" on the docket first. So what's going on with the universe's favorite tree-man?

"I just talked to James Gunn last week once we got all the wonderful nominations for the MTV Movie Awards," Diesel continued. "To think that I'm nominated for best duo, again this year, as a tree [laughs] is pretty outrageous, especially since Paul [Walker] and I won best duo in 2002, when the MTV audience was the first to embrace [the "Fast & Furious"] saga. It was really was. It was the MTV audience that said, 'this is important.' And they've been loyal ever since to the point, just last year we won best duo again, 12 years apart."

We'll see if Diesel will win for his talking tree role with Bradley Cooper as a talking raccoon when the Movie Awards air on April 12, but after that Diesel will have to get to work on "Guardians 2."

"I know James Gunn is very excited and he's working on it right now," Diesel added. "He's very excited about what Groot will do in the 2017 movie."

So are we -- and regardless of whether Diesel shows up in "Guardians" and "Inhumans," or just the former, our reaction will be a little something like this:
