Gabrielle Union Recasts Most Of 'Bring It On' And Now We Must Finish It
Gabrielle Union has recast "Bring It On" for the youth of today, and we have a lot of feelings about it.
It's been nearly 15 years since the Toros and the Clovers went head-to-head at Nationals, and while it's hard to image anyone other than Union in that East Compton Clovers cheer uniform, her first draft pick would totally kill a cheer-off.
When asked by Yahoo Style which Hollywood starlet she'd like to play Isis if the cult cheerleading comedy were being recast today, Union cast young ingenue Keke Palmer. She also cast Dakota Fanning in Kirsten Dunst's role of Toros cheer captain T-T-Torrance and Selena Gomez as Missy, Eliza Dushku's "bad-girl role."
But why stop there? With the three leading ladies already cast, let's finish casting this theoretical reboot. (But please, Hollywood, by the power of the spirit stick, don't reboot "Bring It On.")
Keke Palmer as Isis
We love Union's pick to play Clovers' cheer captain Isis. Not only is Palmer the youngest talk show host on TV -- a testament to her charisma -- but she's got some fierce moves.
Dakota Fanning as Torrance
Dakota Fanning has pretty much followed in the footsteps of Kirsten Dunst since the beginning of her career, so she's an obvious pick to play Torrance. Of course, it helps that Fanning already has cheerleading experience and knows how to rock a pair of pom-poms.
Selena Gomez as Missy
Selena Gomez has been trying to toughen up her good girl image for years, so the character of Missy would be perfect for the former Disney darling. SelGo is bank.
Debby Ryan as Big Red
Maybe it's the red hair, or maybe it's the fact that she's proven she can play the mean girl, but Debby Ryan is Big Red. Plus, every Disney starlet has been through choreography bootcamp so we know she can at least cheer on beat.
Dylan O'Brien as Cliff
We know Dylan O'Brien is really good at playing the nerdy, awkward guy, but Cliff has a little more edge to him, which is something we think O'Brien would have fun with. Not to mention we'd get to see him play guitar. [Insert fangirling here.]
Ariana Grande as Whitney
Duh. As if there's anyone else worthy enough to say the line, "She puts the 'itch' in bitch."
Ashley Benson as Courtney
Ashley Benson is no stranger to playing the mean girl, and she regularly delivers quotable lines on "Pretty Little Liars." In other words, she's a solid choice for Courtney. And Benson's newfound cheer skills will come in handy!
Nick Jonas as Jan Jan the Cheerleading Man
We prefer Nick Jonas without his shirt, but if he's going to wear something, we guess it should be a cheerleading uniform. We hear those things have velcro keeping them together...
Zendaya as Jenelope
When it comes to swag, Zendaya has it in spades. Pair that with her hip-hop dancing skills, and her affinity for late '90s fashion, and she is Jenelope.
