Common Doesn't Think 'Selma' Was Snubbed At The Oscars: Watch

'I look at the positive in this.'

Maybe it's time we take a step back and look at the Oscar nominations differently. Can you really call a Best Picture nomination a "snub"? Common, who co-starred in "Selma" and also contributed Best Original Song nominee "Glory" alongside John Legend, doesn't think so.

Common told MTV News that he was "super, super happy" about the nominations.

"Of course I would have loved to see ["Selma" director] Ava [DuVernay] nominated and [lead actor] David [Oyelowo], so it's a disappointment, but we're really grateful to be nominated for Best Picture. There's a lot of movies that came out this year and 'Selma''s one of the films that's nominated for Best Picture," he said. "I look at the positive in this and think about that and think about the impact that it's having in the world and how it's affecting people's lives."

"Glory" has already scooped up both a Golden Globe and the Critic's Choice Movie Award for Best Original Song.

He also said that to see more diversity in film, filmmakers must keep producing excellent pieces of art that touch their viewers.

"I look at it like let's just do the best work and create the best work, and we'll be eventually recognized at some point or another," he said.
