Last month, MTV News chose our 19 favorite TV couples of 2014, with Glenn and Maggie from "The Walking Dead" barely taking the top spot from Ben and Leslie of "Parks and Recreation."

We also opened up the voting to you, the fans, and unsurprisingly you voted in droves -- but today (January 8) we can officially announce that Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Castiel (Misha Collins) from "Supernatural" edged out Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) from "The Vampire Diaries" by fewer than 10,000 votes.

It was a valiant effort by many passionate fandoms -- specifically Destiel and Delena -- and we at MTV News can't wait to see how the love of these various couples blossoms in 2015. But first, to celebrate this year's winners, here are three reasons why Destiel were your best TV couple of the year:

Because their love is so great, it inspired a musical.

The "Supernatural" 200th episode sadly didn't feature Collins, but it did include a musical extravaganza put on by fans of the book-series-within-a-show, also called "Supernatural." Those fans obviously picked up on the Destiel subtext -- just like viewers of "SPN" in our world -- and wrote the couple as canon, much to the amusement of Sam (Jared Padalecki).

Because they share a profound bond.

When you pull someone out of Hell, it creates a connection. Sorry, Sam.

Because it's obvious.

Even though the show won't acknowledge Dean and Cas as canon, their shared love for each other is obvious, and neither the man nor the angel has seemed very interested in sustaining a prolonged relationship with a female. (Nor has the show itself, if we're being honest, here.) So even if "SPN" won't treat Destiel as text, we will -- from now until perdition.
