Sure, Hannukah is eight crazy nights of gambling with chocolate, nightly gifts that may or may not pertain to "Star Wars," and jelly donuts. But let's be honest: the festival of lights kind of sucks when it comes to contemporary songs celebrating the miracle of the oil. (Sorry Adam Sandler, but call us when you add some names to "The Hannukah Song" from this millennium.)
Until now. Thanks to some righteous remixers, the holiday finally has some songs that put a modern spin on that old "Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel" dreck. Here are four of our new faves -- including one that's already racked up more than 1 million views on YouTube:
six13, "(Chanukah) Shake It Off":
Best lyric: "I'm spinnin' dreidels/Onions and potatoes... Singin' it's gonna be eight nights."
VodkasandLatkes, "Shake It Off":
"And the kugel's gonna bake, bake, bake, bake/And your tuchus gonna shake, shake, shake/We're just gonna say, say say, mazel tov, Hanukkah." Sigh. Bubbe would be proud.
The Maccabeats, "All About That Neis":
Best lyric (speaking of bubbe!): "My bubbe she told me it's not 'bout the food you fry/faith, family, freedom we celebrate for eight nights."
The Key Tov Orchestra, Hanukkah Medley:
Best lyric: "I told you once, now I told you twice/'Bout the miracle of the candlelight."
And this one, because JB Smoove always asks the right questions:
