'Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children': Meet The Extraordinary Cast, Complete With Invisible Boy

But, why are Olive and Emma's powers seemingly reversed?

One of the most (non-superhero) anticipated movies of the year is Tim Burton's Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Based on Ransom Riggs's novel of the same name, the book is the first in a trilogy, following the exploits of Jacob Portman (Asa Butterfield) as he goes back in time — well, sort of — and meets children with unusual abilities, all while learning the truth behind his grandfather's mysterious death and past life.

The film, out September 30, also stars Eva Green as Miss Peregrine, whom director Burton describes as "a scary Mary Poppins [who] can turn into a bird."

In the book, Miss Peregrine looks after several children, including the high-flying Olive (Lauren McCrostie), unbelievably strong Bronwyn (Pixie Davies), invisible boy Millard (Cameron King), telepathic twins (Thomas and Joseph Odwell), and fire-producing Emma Bloom (Ella Purnell). Check out these six kids below, thanks to Entertainment Weekly.

Miss Peregrine'

No, it's not a misprint: IMDb does list McCrostie as Olive and Purnell as Emma, even though McCrostie is the one wearing the gloves and Purnell is wearing the weighted shoes. Are their powers being switched for the film?

"Weird kids: It’s something that I’ve dealt with and been interested in for a while," Burton told EW. If you've ever seen Alice in Wonderland or the Johnny Depp-led Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, you'll get a sense of what to expect from this film adaptation.

One of the most unique aspects of the novel, for those who haven't read it, is that Riggs includes old-timey photos he finds at various flea markets, incorporating the people or places in the pics into the story.

CORRECTION (3/4/15, 1:20 p.m. ET): The actress playing Miss Peregrine is Eva Green. An earlier version of this item misstated her name.
