Common Fights For Climate Change Awareness On 'Trouble In The Water'

The track also subtly references police violence and corruption.

Common goes to bat for climate change in the new collaborative song, “Trouble in the Water.”

The track, which appears on HOME, a new music project created by Hip Hop Caucus in partnership with The Private Plane that hopes to expand the climate movement, premiered on Billboard Friday (November 14) and features Aaron Fresh, Choklate, Laci Kay and Malik Yusef.

Not surprisingly, the ever-introspective “Kingdom” MC unleashes impassioned flows about preserving the world around him.

“Water moves, new world order rules, through hurricanes, the pain is made audible/soundwaves, Chi-town graves, dug deep, water dirty like the police that flood streets/Blood on the beach, sandstorms on the streets, a man’s form can be transformed with the heat of the moment,” he raps.

Other standout tracks on the project include Ne-Yo’s “Earth Song” and Raheem DeVaughn’s “Outerspaceship.”

Fans can download the HOME EP for free for a week on iTunes starting on November 18, while the full HOME LP will drop on December 2.
