While Ellie Goulding and Calvin Harris got all smoochy for 2012's "I Need Your Love," the duo's latest collaboration, "Outside," follows a doomed love.
The track starts slow, Ellie's airy voice urgently telling the story of being excommunicated from a relationship. "Thought I'd been so strong/ There's a power in what you do/ Now every other day I'll be watching you." Calvin creates a sinister counter-melody with a detached, string-like motif that carries throughout the song.
And it wouldn't be a dance track without those claps building up to the climax, where the lyrics take a vengeful turn. "I'll show you what it feels like/ Now I'm on the outside."
"Outside" is a track off Harris' Motion album, out October 31, and follows the producer's first single, "Slow Acid." The LP also includes features from Gwen Stefani, Tinashe, Haim and Big Sean.
