7 'Game Of Thrones' Flashbacks We Need To See Next Season

Flashbacks are coming.

It's confirmed: "Game of Thrones" is going back to the past.

The fifth season of HBO's fantasy series will feature flashbacks, for the first time ever, as confirmed by show runners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. "By making the first season, we set a rule: No prophecies, dreams or flashbacks," they told film students in Spain during a recent Q&A (via EW). "We failed the first two and this season the third. So yes, this season will finally have flashbacks."

That's great news, because there's so much of Westeros' history that we want to see on-screen — and characters we want to revisit. Here are seven of the flashbacks we're dying to see.

1. When Cersei Met Maggy

HBO

Cersei Lannister

Well, this one's happening. Rumors persist that the "Game of Thrones" premiere's flashback scene will center on young Cersei's prophetic encounter with a woman called Maggy the Frog, who offers an ominous tease of Cersei's future. No spoilers, but it doesn't sound so good for the Queen Regent of Westeros.

2. The Tower of Joy

Eddard Stark's battle against Ser Arthur Dayne and other members of the Targaryen-appointed Kingsguard stands out as one of the most fan-favorite moments in Westeros lore. Theories suggest that the battle ends with the birth of one of our beloved characters, too; a flashback could confirm or deny those theories. Plus, who could say no to a visit from Sean Bean?

3. The Battle of the Trident

There's so much story to behold in Robert's Rebellion, including the climactic battle between the future King Baratheon and his mortal nemesis, Rhaegar Targaryen. Gotta see that hammer-to-the-chest deathblow in action.

4. The Sack of King's Landing

You don't tease the return of Tywin Lannister without a major reason. Sure, Charles Dance could appear only in Cersei's Maggy the Frog flashback, or even as a corpse in the present day, but how about we see his betrayal of The Mad King Aerys firsthand?

5. The Tourney at Harrenhal

HBO

Jon Snow

Book lovers love this moment in Westeros history, largely due to its place in the Jon Snow parentage theories. There's enough in the Harrenhal tournament to fill out an entire episode of "Thrones."

6. Joffrey's Death

Yeah, yeah, we saw it already. But we can never see it enough.

7. The Birth of Hodor

Because Hodor.

"Game of Thrones" returns next spring.
