'Twin Peaks' Returns: Here's What We Know

Nine episodes will hit Showtime in 2016.

After two mysterious and identical tweets from series creators David Lynch and Mark Frost, fans of the cult series finally have their answer to the question, "Is there going to be more 'Twin Peaks' or what?"

It was announced today, via YouTube video, that "Twin Peaks" will return in 2016 to Showtime.

According to Deadline's story, Lynch and Frost are writing each of the nine episodes, with the former directing the entirety of the limited run. The site also reported that the new episodes will take place in the present day, 25 years after the murder of Laura Palmer.

There's no official word on returning cast members, although the Deadline story adds that FBI Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) is rumored to make a comeback.

Lynch and Frost ignited speculation last week when they both tweeted, "Dear Twitter Friends: That gum you like is going to come back in style! #damngoodcoffee," referencing two quotes from the show.
