Childish Gambino hosted the Woodies back in 2011, but next month the LA-based rapper, actor and comedian will make his grand return to the festival, as headlining performer at the 2014 mtvU Woodie Awards.
The 10th annual show will be held on March 13 in Austin, Texas, during the SXSW music festival and additional performers will include Chicago rapper Vic Mensa, and Bleachers, both of whom will hit the Woodies Festival stage.
Gambino dropped his latest album Because the Internet in December, meaning that he'll have new tracks to play live, including singles like "3005." Vic Mensa, who has been named a 2014 MTV Artist to Watch, released his Innanetape in September, and since then he's been out on the road, recently opening Disclosure on a string of tour dates.
"I'm super stoked to be playing the Woodies festival this year," said Vic Mensa. "I'm crowd surfing through everything so the girls better get their swimsuits ready."
Bleachers, the new band fronted by Fun.'s Jack Antonoff, will give one of their very first live performances at the Woodies, making it a show to remember.
Childish Gambino is nominated for the "Did it My Way Woodie," at the 2014 mtvU Woodie Awards, a new category that celebrates artists who have dared to push the boundaries of music. He will go up against Kanye West, Arcade Fire, Bob Dylan and Beyonce for the award.
The 2014 mtvU Woodie Awards will broadcast on MTV and mtvU Sunday, March 16 at 8:00p.m. ET/PT. The half-hour special will highlight the big winners and best performances from the show. For fans who will be attending SXSW, doors for the show open at 3:00p.m. CT on March 13, at Red River and 1st Street in Austin.
